Crested Butte is the states premiere ski and recreation area located in the heart of the Rocky Mountains. Only 24 miles from a commercial airport, Crested Butte is an ideal vacation destination for the outdoor enthusiast who does not wish to travel long distances.

In the summer Crested Butte offers scenic hiking and mountain biking trails and the Crested Butte Art Festival, a collection of local and national artist who come to Crested Butte each August to display their works. At the height of the summer Crested Butte is a bloom with native wildflowers making for the prefect excuse to take a mountain drive.

During the winter Crested Butte boasts 1,160 skiable acres with more double-black diamond terrain than any other resort in Colorado. Crested Butte is home to the US Extreme Skiing a nd Snowboard Championships, which is held here every year.

Three miles from the town is the resort base area of Mt. Crested Butte, a modern ski village complete with lodging, dining, shopping, and conference facilities. The resort and town are connected by a free shuttle bus.

Crested Butte offers some of the steepest lift-served ski terrain in the USA. Extreme Limits is 550 acres of steep and deep, backcountry-style, expert-only skiing and riding. Author/extreme skier Lito Tejada-Flores calls Extreme Limits "the best adventure skiing in the Rockies." Crested Butte is home of Colorado's first X Games, the Annual U.S. Extreme Freeskiing and Boarderfest Championships, the Telemark Festival and the Elk Mountain Grand Traverse.

Set amid towering mountain peaks, Crested Butte is a wonderful and truly unspoiled Colorado mountain town. The town boasts one of Colorado's largest National Historic Districts, with charm impossible to convey in words.

Although "sophisticated" and "charming" are words synonymous with Crested Butte, this doesn't mean the town hasn't kept up a bit of its irreverence.

Crested Butte is a great Colorado Ski Town, as different from those other overcrowded interstate highway resorts as you can get.

Lessons & Instruction

There's nothing quite like the feeling of accomplishment in knowing that you're a better skier or snowboarder after your vacation. CB Mountain Schools, Ski and Snowboard instruction has the skilled instructors and teaching techniques to ensure that every person goes to the next ability level of skiing or snowboarding. Lessons and workshops available for everyone. Crested Butte also features an Adaptive Sports Center that include lessons for alpine and nordic skiing, and snowboarding.

Snowboarding

The superpipe will be one of several new attractions for riders of all ages this year. CBMR will also expand the Painter Boy terrain park, which invites younger, beginner and intermediate riders to pull off maneuvers on "kinder, gentler" features.

The advanced park on Canaan, already a heel-kicking course of tabletops, jumps and rails will get even better with a jib park and 10-12 new rails.

Racing Programs

Race workshops are a great way to add a new dimension to your skiing. Racing fundamentals are simplified by our instructors for applications for all abilities. NASTAR races are offered daily on Smith Hill.

Finally, challenge yourself or a friend on a self-timed GS-style race course, located under the Red Lady Express Lift.

Recent Improvements

Under new ownership, the ski area will spend over $80 million on new lifts, more terrain, state-of-the art snowmaking / grooming, and a new mountain village and conference center, Mountaineer Square, opening in December 2006.

New this year! United Airlines daily Airbus jet service from Denver. American Airlines non-stop daily 757 jet service from Dallas with additional Saturday flights during peak periods. Two new quad charlifts. Expanded intermediate terrain. New Superpipe & terrain parks. State-of-the-art snowmaking & grooming. Redesign of Kids’ World. On Mountian equipment demo center.
