Visitor Guide Snow Report Webcam Lodging Car Rental Air Fare Wizard Although Humboldt County is one of the flattest and most productive agricultural counties in the state of Iowa, someone found a hill and its wonderful. Cut out of a wooded bluff along the beautiful east fork of the Des Moines River is Silver Creek Ski and Recreation Area. In addition to snow skiing from, November through March, the facility has a restaurant, canoeing, horseshoes and sandpit volleyball courts. Denton Myers built the ski slopes on his farm in 1958. As the years went by the facilities have been improved. There are 12 ski runs with two T-bar lifts. Lights allow for night skiing and snow making equipment means skiing can be done with or without Mother Nature's cooperation. Up-to-date rental equipment and a ski repair shop are located at the facility. Ski patrol is on duty and lessons are offered regularly.
